More Characters From Dark Souls 1

I can’t think of any characters that I would label as my favorite. But one that I favor in a love-hate kinda way is the Crestfallen Warrior. He’s the first NPC to encounter, located in Firelink Shrine, which is the very next location in the game. He gives you some information if you keep talking to him but eventually he’ll tell you to lay off (probably because you’re freakin’ annoying).

One character that I know I love, it’s the merchant you find in the Undead Burg. He sells you various kinds of weapons, armor, and arrows. But this is the best part: when you’re done buying stuff, he’s says this, “Thank you kindly. Nehehehehe!” I have a profound respect for anyone with a creepy laugh.

Then there’s Rickert from the last time. He might be an easter egg considering he shares the same name with a character from Berserk, a manga written and illustrated by Kentaro Miura (developer, Hidetaka Miyazaki is a fan of the series you see. This is why a lot parallels to said manga are in the game). Both characters are also blacksmiths.

Next, there’s Andre, the best blacksmith from any game ever. You find him just before Darkroot Woods. What makes this character interesting is he’s the only NPC who’s mouth actually moves when he talks. The only other time mouths move is during cutscenes. This gets you thinking, “what makes Andre so special?” Ya got me, guys (that means I don’t know (just in case you didn’t know).

That last one we gotta talk about is definitely Solaire of Astora. You find him after defeating the Tarus Demon. He’s the one who started the whole “Praise the Sun” meme. Or at least I think he is. He’s the first person you encounter that says the phrase and does the pose. If you join his Covenant, he can come to your aid during some boss fights. Which is great because a lot of the boss fight in this game make you wanna set something on fire. The hardest boss is most likely Manus, Father of the Abyss. This fight will kick you right in the hard candies if you’re not prepared. You can’t summon Solaire, but you can summon Sif, the Great Grey Wolf (ya know, if you saved him).
